Democrat Jim Barksdale is sending a clear message with yet another new staff hire in his run against Republican U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson: Populist-minded Bernie Sanders supporters are welcome.

His latest hire is Symone D. Sanders, a 25-year-old who was Bernie Sanders’ national press secretary and the chief spokeswoman for his campaign.

It’s the latest attempt by Sanders to tap into the Sanders’ allure. His advertising campaign, his rhetoric and a spate of new staff hires who once worked for Sanders send a screaming signal that his campaign wants to be a home for disillusioned young voters.

As Donald Trump’s latest campaign woes rekindle Democratic hopes of flipping Georgia, Barksdale supporters talk of forcing an unpredictable runoff against Isakson. But some Democrats remain divided over Barksdale, who was a little-known investment manager before jumping in the race. And his tack toward Sanders-ian policy holds dangers in Georgia, where the Vermont senator was trounced by Hillary Clinton in the March primary.

Bernie's a useless bum, Barksdale just lost the race with that move. #socialismsucks

No. The Barksdale campaign ran a very secluded campaign that targeted most of its efforts in Atlanta, neglecting the entire bottom half of Georgia. The real issues are in Southern Georgia, where the highest poverty rates are. We need help in Southern Georgia, and Barksdale showed little to no interest in my communities, my families, and my friends. While I will proudly cast my vote for him as a Democrat and hopes he comes out the winner, Sen. Isakson's 14 point lead about him says it all about how the campaign was ran.

Good move. Hire a looser from a looser campaign.

I do not particularly care for Isakson but I have absolutely no use for Barksdale.

Bernie was 'trounced by Hillary Clinton in the March primary' because most Georgians didn't know who Bernie was. By the time they realized who he was and how the media was surpassing him it was too late.

No one is interested in Hillary's lying and deceit and anyone trying to run as Bernie or act as if they share his values is a complete idiot.

Simone Sanders was a mole for the Clinton team therefore she's not an asset to Barksdale she's a liability.

Thank you.
