Isakson, Perdue sound positive notes over Donald Trump’s secretary of state pick

WASHINGTON — As members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Georgia Republican Sens. Johnny Isakson and David Perdue will have outsized roles in determining whether Rex Tillerson will be confirmed as Secretary of State. And both senators on Tuesday sounded positive notes over Donald Trump’s pick, even as both stopped short of explicitly vowing to support the Exxon Mobil CEO for the Cabinet position.

Isakson said Tillerson had an “impressive background with unique experience and extensive knowledge of working in a global environment.”

Perdue acknowledged Tillerson did not have a traditional diplomatic background, but said that “after eight years of foreign policy setbacks, we will need to make some bold changes to help re-establish American leadership and credibility around the world.” He touted Tillerson’s business background.

The statements released by both lawmakers hinted that they could follow Senate tradition of meeting with the Cabinet nominee before publicly announcing their positions.

Tillerson’s past business dealings with Russia have some Senate Republicans squirming, raising questions about whether Democrats could sink the nomination in the new year.

Democrats can’t filibuster Cabinet nominations, but Trump can only afford to have two Republican senators defect, assuming Democrats oppose Tillerson across-the-board.

Even more pressing in the interim is what’s going to happen before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which must advance the Tillerson nomination first. There are 10 Republicans on the panel and 9 Democrats, so even one GOP senator voting ‘nay’ could be enough to jeopardize the nomination. Rubio sits on that committee.

Another influential Georgian, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, praised Tillerson as an effective ambassador for Trump’s foreign policy at a Heritage Foundation speech.

“What if he actually effectively represents America?” said Gingrich, according to Talk Media News. “What if we actually get good deals … what if he’s actually able to explain Trumpism to the world?”

Lick those boots, boys. We already know you're shameless and self-serving.

Trump is not the most favorite person in Washington, as they are now trying to undermine him even more before he takes office. A new scandal is now shaking in D.C. and is related to “Republicans in name only” or “RINOs.” These leaked emails (an email from John Podesta to Huma Abedin) by WikiLeaks is filed under the number 1078645, and contains a shocking revelation about some Republicans who turned their back on Trump. This email was first sent in the beginning of July, and according to the Conservative Daily Post, it shows how certain funds went from Clinton’s campaign to the Super PACS of Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina, and John Kasich. Read for yourself: “JB, CF, and JK PACS will be noticeably silent for the rest of the campaign. Each will receive a significant allowance from advertising budget. HRC is in the loop and has talked to all three personally. Eyes only.” The email came to light before Speaker of the House Paul Ryan refused to speak at a Trump’s event in Wisconsin. In the other emails, the money is shown to be moved to Republican elected officials in the House and Senate. As the FEC reports showed, two major donations from October were transferred from PACS to John McCain, upon his attack towards Trump. This all occurred after a bunch of emails showed that money transfers to support one candidate and move support from another happened. Afterwards, Kirkpatrick lost several key donors and money. With this, the support for the DNC and the DSCC decreased. Just as information, McCain represents the main sponsor of a committee in charge of investigating the Russian involvement in the elections. One of Trump’s nemesis is also Senator Lindsay Graham also got help from the Clintons. One email reads, “Cleared the road for him in 2020,”meaning there will be no Democrat in the South Carolina Senate race, after Graham gets re-election. Graham also pointed out the Russian involvement in the elections vocally. Plenty of other politicians went after Trump as well. And this is nothing but a pure act of revenge. Since the emails were plenty, there is no way of learning who works for the Clintons and against trump at the same time. We can only hope that the IRS comes out with clear proof and stop the Clintons once and for all. The Clintons could not make up a worse plot to destroy Trump when they spoke of Russia and its meddling in the elections.

Unbelievable! With SO many poverty-stricken people in Georgia, this choice for Secretary of State is not going to improve their status, but increase the wealth of those who are already rolling in dough!, like himself!

Junelle Lewis, under President Johnson, I was able to attend college because of his Social Security plan for students of deceased parent (s)! Under President Kennedy, we all know his involvement with the Civil Rights Movement! President Carter was instrumental in negotiating the Camp David Accords! At 90, he still works for the least of these among us! Have you checked your 401k or other savings accounts? Thanks to YOUR PRESIDENT OBAMA they are no longer losing money!

Tell me why we shouldn't be concerned about the article oil and how Tillerson, Trump & Putin stand to become stupendously, OBSCENELY rich. The are many others that could do this job without the conflict of interest liability. Why should the party take it?

Isakson and Perdue are part of the internal terrorist republican party. Mere puppets, not caring about those they are supposed to represent.

Because they are totally and absolutely ignorant regarding Common Core- just like most elected office holders and news persons.

We've had enough of career politicians....give new, successful people a chance.

So we should just turn the government directly over to those who have been buying it with their campaign contributions and promises of high paying lobby jobs for decades now? This isn't trying something new. These people have been pulling strings in the back ground and now they are being given the keys.

If they can produce change, yes. If not, we will turn them out and get someone who will. Our current lifetime politicians have failed...more of the same, won't help.

I would like to see both senators voted out. One is to ill with Parkinsons and the other is not fit. Read the story of Pillow tex and how Perdue took their jobs overseas!

Of course they would, they are not as concerned with what happens to America as they are the welfare of the GOP,

Both of those two worthless meat sacks would think so as long as someone paid them to say it.

Both of our Senators favor Big Oil over Georgia Citizens on every vote they cast . I know I was in the petroleum industry 55 years . Both are sorry excuse for representing our State in the U S Government.

Corporatist would be positive about a CEO from Exxon at the helm of SOS.. Ya he is really for the people same as them Goldman Sachs picks. These are very people conscious picks for the American people not corporations and lobbyist.

Cannot think of any better reason to be suspicious of Tillerson than the fact that he has Gingrich and Perdue's approval.

Many of Trump's picks for high-level posts appear to have wives young enough to be their daughters.  Judging by photos of the chosen with their wives, there is an abundance of blonde and brunette Barbies.  Is that the new criteria for cabinet posts?

@newsphile I think some democrat women might be a bit annoyed with you for that. Especially if those wives of whom you speak are slim and attractive.  You might just have committed a macro-aggression.
