The U.S. Chamber is pumping another $150,000 into the race for Georgia’s 6th District with plans to target about 42,000 likely supporters of Republican Karen Handel in the final days before Tuesday’s vote.
The ad buy, part of the conservative group’s $1.15 million overall spend on the race, includes a new radio spot, digital targeting and print ads.
The ads seek to emphasize Handel’s business experience and paint Democrat Jon Ossoff as a liberal. The print ads in Sunday newspapers highlight U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson’s endorsement of Handel.
“We’ve identified 42,000 voters we think are particularly receptive to our message, and we are just going to hone in on that universe,” said Rob Engstrom, the chamber’s national political director. “We are trying to fill in the holes that we think can make a difference in such a close race.”
Democrats have countered with millions in TV time, much of it from unprecedented fundraising hauls from Ossoff. In Ossoff’s final ad, released this week, he focuses on slashing “wasteful spending” in Washington.
The U.S. Chamber endorsed Handel shortly after her second-place finish in the April 18 vote, and snapped up nearly $1 million in TV time. The race for the suburban Atlanta district is the most expensive House contest ever, and both parties have invested enormous resources in an early test of Donald Trump’s support.
