Poll: Nathan Deal is one of nation’s more popular governors

Gov. Nathan Deal. AJC file.

Gov. Nathan Deal fares just fine in the latest Morning Consult poll of gubernatorial approval ratings.

The poll released Tuesday shows that 57 percent of voters give him favorable reviews – and just over a quarter disapprove. About 16 percent don’t have an opinion or don’t know.

Compare that to the two anchors of the list: Chris Christie of New Jersey and Sam Brownback of Kansas – two Republicans who logged just 25 percent approval ratings in their respective states.

On the other end of the spectrum are two other GOP governors in blue states: Charlie Baker of Massachusetts and Larry Hogan of Maryland both tally about 70 percent positive reviews.

Catch all the details here.

Fought against Medicaid expansion to encourage low income people to go elsewhere. What a guy. He is popular with the state's 1%.

What polling firm did he pay for this honor? Not so long ago it was some magazine say Georgia was best in the nation im some fictitious survey and poll.

Really, now? And why...Must not take much to be popular in that group of governor.

Not in my book! Deal has been in friend to education. Slashing budgets, cutting teachers' pay, etc. Yet the state can afford to give the movie industry a free ride with no taxes. He apparently thinks movies are more important than our children.

Standards are low; the reason this is true is because he used common sense about 75% of the time and didn't succumb to partisan hackery but only a few times. He's governed more for all Georgians than any legislator we have right now.

Being an idiot is prevalent, your comment proves this.

I'd say he's done more for Georgians with the business incentives he backs (film, Mercedes, etc) and his veto/non-backing of religious freedom legislation than many of the kooks in the Assembly and especially the morons we have in D.C. It's a low bar, for sure. Doesn't really require name-calling. We could be doing much better, but also much worse.

Business wise he has done exceptionally well. He made a poor choice going with common core though.

IF this is true, it reflects the state of education in GA. Somebody please add some critical thinking classes to the curriculum!

Deal is one of the worst governors Georgia has ever had. Obviously they didn't poll anyone from Georgia.

How much did he have to pay for this piece of chicanery? More than the fake stories about GA being the number 1 place to do business!

I'm a Republican and I sure don't like him. Just ask any teacher who hasn't had a raise in 9 years. Calling people names is not very nice.

From what I heard, some 10 ,000 calls were made to Gov Deal's office against Campus Carry and about 700 for. Yet he passed it, shortly after appearing at the NRA convention.

Pauline Goodman Don't believe all the liberal BS thats out there. The only way to reduce firearm violence would be to prevent Democrats from having firearms. Chicago, Detroit, LA, DC, all are Democrat controlled cities, all have extremely restrictive gun laws and extremely high murder rates. Why?

This is a "bigly" piece of fake news. They surely didn't ask the people of Ga. remember he was named the biggest crook in Congress. Had to resign to stop investigation of criminal activity.

Peter Chagnon

They did ask the people of Georgia...every election he was voted in as governor. So yeah...there is that

Elaine M. Poag

Peter Chagnon yes and the governor 's election was as cricked as trump's. Check out who donate to his campaign... Lobbyists and out of state rich republicans.

Nelms Graham i have know Deal personally for many years and assure you I know what I am talking about. Even Congress named him the most unethical one in Washington. He resigned before they indicted him. Why do you always label people? You don't know how I vote but I do know deal.
