Trump and Carter find common ground over ‘bad’ media treatment

Jimmy Carter and Donald Trump.

President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Saturday morning to thank former President Jimmy Carter for his remarks about “how badly I am treated by the press.”

Trump was referring to a recent interview with the New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd that had the Georgia native asserting the “media have been harder on Trump than any other president certainly that I’ve know about.”

Added Carter: “I think they feel free to claim that Trump is mentally deranged and everything else without hesitation.”

Also in that interview, the Democrat offered Trump his services to negotiate with North Korea’s leader – an offer the White House formally rebuffed on Friday.

The 93-year-old repeated that he and his wife Rosalynn voted for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton in last year’s Democratic primary. He questioned whether Russia’s attempts to interfere in the election changed “enough votes, or any votes” to matter. And he knocked some of former President Barack Obama’s foreign policy decisions.

Have you ever wondered why some politicians are “media darlings” and some aren’t? No, me either.

No similarity on which one deserved the negative press more, however  Carter is being charitable--as he always is.

Odd. I don't ever remember 16 women accusing Carter of sexual harassment. Trump promised he'd sue them because they were all lying (just like Weinstein's accusers I suppose). Wonder why he hasn't?

@Ychromosome Because the media has already done interviews, and dug into the claims and can't find anything credible. If the claims had even an iota of truth the media would be on it like rabid dogs.

Trump's profoundly negative approach to and impact upon politics and every other aspect of public life."

LOL! Record stock market boom, lowest unemployment in years, highest economic growth rate in years, and on and on. If those kind of achievements are a negative aspect of Trump's effect on public life then pleas, by all means, give us more!

@Doomy Keep warming yourself with that dumpster fire. Trump can't take credit for any of those achievements, and we will be feeling the negative effects of his presidency for decades to come. The Trump movement is all about doing what is easy instead of what is right... nothing good can come from that kind of lazy, arrogant approach.

@Doomy Yep - that is all due to Trump - thank goodness we finally pulled out of  a nine year depression and the stock market crash ended in November 2016

LMAO, anyone with half a brain knows all this economic recovery was happening after the Great Recession of 07-08 and was continuing the first day of Dumph,s term. I'm a republican but have enough sense to see that, lol.

Carter's got this one wrong. The negative press coverage is just an honest and thoroughly professional reflection of Trump's profoundly negative approach to and impact upon politics and every other aspect of public life.

You wouldn't think it appropriate if the media reported on a devastating house fire and made it a point to mention that "the heat produced by the intense flames could allow a cold person to warm themselves." Or reporting on a person's death from cancer and conceding that "from the point of view of the cancer cells, this is a victory." That is the equivalent of the "fair and balanced" coverage that whiny victim Trump and his supporters demand.

Funkadelic said it many years ago: "If you don't like the effect--don't produce the cause."

You know it's bad when a long time Dem like Carter notices how biased the media is against Trump. Sadly, the lamestream media lost its supposed independence long ago.

LOL, Carter being one of the worst presidents ever comparing himself to Dumph is right on the button.

Long time bad blood between Jimmy Carter and the Clintons with sniping from both sides - this is just the latest example

Jimmy Carter and the Clintons have long had a frosty relationship. In 1992, he declined to endorse Bill Clinton, saying “people are looking for somebody who is honest and tells the truth.”...

While he was campaigning for president in 1992, Bill Clinton, worried about being branded the “next Carter,” distanced himself from his fellow Democrat. ”Jimmy Carter and I are as different as daylight and dark,” Clinton said at the time.

Have to give President Carter credit...he's an honest man.  Says what he believes is right, regardless of whether the conservatives or the liberals want him to.  (Which is one of the reasons he was considered a rather ineffective president...was an honest man in a corrupt system.)
