Brian Kemp on recall effort: ‘Now that’s funny’

Secretary of State Brian Kemp is trying to rev up his supporters by poking fun at the group of left-leaning activists who have worked for months to drum up signatures for their recall petition.

The Republican candidate for governor’s campaign sent supporters on Wednesday a mocking note saying he managed to find some humor in the “sad and desperate” recall effort targeting his job. The campaign’s headline: “Now that’s funny.”

It took aim at a recent recall event that featured speakers accusing Kemp of voter suppression who highlighted new ways to register to vote online. Kemp backed legislation in 2012 that launched an online voter registration platform.

“The same people who claim that Kemp is trying to suppress votes are giddy about Kemp’s online voter registration portal?” read his campaign note. “Now that’s funny.”

The group, A Voice For All Georgia, launched a petition this year to seek Kemp’s ouster over “violations in office and failure to secure elections.” Organizers cite Kemp’s response to security breaches involving voter data and his handling of a lawsuit questioning the accuracy of Georgia’s election infrastructure.

Organizers would need to obtain nearly 780,000 signatures by Dec. 15 to appear on the ballot.

Brian Kemp must be easily amused. He probably finds it hilarious when people die who didn't get treatment because of his opposition to Medicaid expansion.

Sad that Kemp finds hundreds of thousands of Georgia voters who are appalled at his mismanagement of Ga.'s highly hackable voting system and methods for suppressing the votes of African Americans and immigrants "funny."  It's not funny at all. It's citizens rising up and taking seriously the terrible job Kemp has done and wanting to hold him accountable.

@E_FORD Or, that he finds humorous that those people are appalled because he PERSONALLY compromised the identities/security of every voter in GA by giving CDs of voter data to his friends.  This guy is a scumbag of the highest magnitude.  I vote Republican, and I will NOT vote for the lying scumbag Brian Kemp.
